Holidays are great for me because of the time to bond with family. However, as the sole computer engineer in my family, holidays also mean I get asked to troubleshoot tech for my parents and others. I’ve realized over the years that most people lack a process for data backup. I tend to be obsessed with my data, and losing it would be catastrophic. Take time to setup a system to backup your data.
Here are some tips from my setup. Visit my Amazon shop for tech accessories.
- A local hard drive to backup your computer weekly. I use an external SSD and run Carbon Copy Cloner every Sunday. My MacBook can be fully restored from the backup which is critically important for me.
- A cloud drive to backup your computer daily. I use Dropbox with symbolic links to key folders on my computer. File changes are synced automatically.
- A backup solution for iPhones and iPads. I use iTunes to backup iPhone and iPad on my MacBook (make sure to encrypt with a password). I also use iCloud to backup each device to the cloud.
