Black Boy Fly: Ato Wright

March 12, 2021

Feature - Ato Wright

#BlackBoyFly is a movement to encourage Black males of all ethnicities in regard to overcoming obstacles to achieve their dreams. Throughout the year, I’ll be featuring Black males that are flying toward their dreams. www.blackboyfly.club

Ato Wright, MD, PhD, of Ghanaian descent, is a childhood friend of mine. Since the age of 12, he’s been the big brother I’ve always looked up to. Ato is a dedicated husband, father, physician, art collector, and entrepreneur. For as long as I’ve known Ato, he’s wanted to be a medical doctor that helped find a cure for cancer. He’s arguably the most stylish physician you’ll ever meet, and it is amazing to see him living out his purpose all these years later as a Radiation Oncologist at the UPMC Carlisle Regional Cancer Center.

Ato and his better half, Tonya Wright, MD (Obstetrics & Gynecology) are avid collectors of art created by people of African descent. They are quickly becoming recognized as art culture influencers due to their thoughtfully-curated Wright Art Collection. As an entrepreneur, Ato is leading the family business, EasyNTasty Jollof Rice, a pre-packaged jollof rice product that was created by Ghanaians, makers of the world’s best jollof. Their product is available online and also sold in 17 Whole Foods stores across the Washington, DC region.

Ato is a graduate of Penn State University and Penn State College of Medicine. He completed his medical residency at Mercy Philadelphia and Duke University Medical Center. Prior to his current role, Ato served as an Assistant Professor in the Tulane University School of Medicine.
